I help spiritually committed men and women who have lost their way to find new purpose and passion in their lives.

The people I work with are often thoughtful, well-meaning, and responsible and they are often tired, overwhelmed, and so deeply hurt and lonely and sad.

And almost always they have attempted to do more ... to love their spouses more, to give themselves more fully to their work, to be more accepting of themselves. And yet, they are so depleted that they have nothing more to give ... to the ones they most want to love, to their work, or to themselves.

I believe all healing includes three parts: Alleviation of suffering, restoration of functioning, and creation of meaning. To reduce suffering means mouming the inevitable disappointments and losses of life. To restore functioning means discovering a vision for ourselves that we live with purpose and passion. And, to create meaning means making sense of why life has happened the way it has to us ... am I defective? Were my parents? Is this just the way life is?

With more than 35 years experience as a pastor and psychotherapist, I have a broad background to contribute to the healing of individuals, couples, and families. Theology and psychology inform me as I help patients to work with and to increasingly accept their own human limitations in more productive and healthy ways.

I am a licensed clinical psychologist and co-director of the Fremont Center. I am a former pastor in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) with a master of divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York, a master of psychology from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, and a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Califomia Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco.

For more than twenty years I have directed an organization that specializes in integrating spirituality, psychology, and healing. I have a practice in psychodynamic therapy and supervision affiliated with Christian Counseling Centers.

I have been married for thirty-eight years and I am the father of two sons.
