Mrs. Erma J. Prothro has worked out of the San Mateo office of Christian Counseling Centers, Inc., since it was established, and is a founding member of the organization. Erma received her Master’s Degree in Counseling from San Francisco State University. She has extensive experience in counseling individuals, couples, families, children, adolescents, and groups.

Her areas of specialization include pre-marital and marital counseling, spiritual concerns, child physical and sexual abuse and neglect, depression and anxiety, loss and grief, divorce recovery, and relationship health. Her clinical experience dates to 1981 as an employee of the San Mateo County Mental Health Department. Her ten years with the county included six years as Outpatient Unit Chief in the East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center.

She also currently serves as Director of the Family Counseling Ministry at Pilgrim Baptist Church in San Mateo, where she and her family have been members for many years. Erma brings to her practice a wealth of experience and understanding from her work in local churches and communities. She is a committed Christian whose joy is serving God’s people.
