Steve Barney received his counseling and theological education at Western Seminary in Los Gatos, and is passionate about helping troubled believers remove the obstacles to freedom and fullness in God. Steve specializes in Couple & Marital Therapy, Adolescent & Family Issues, and Addiction Recovery. He also operates a general practice seeing individual adults in addition to couples, adolescents, families and group therapy.

Typical issues include: distance from God, issues of self-image & shame, depression, anxiety & stress, grief & loss, loneliness, transitions, anger & emotions management, relationship & couple issues including premarital counseling. Steve is trained as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist and directs the Relational Recovery Program at the San Mateo office of Christian Counseling Centers. Relational Recovery is a program for individuals and couples hurt by and stuck in compulsive romance and sexual habits. Steve represents Christian Counseling Centers by speaking at local churches, workshops and conferences. He is a Clinical Member of the American Association of Christian Counselors, the California Association of Marriage & Family Therapists and the New Life Ministries Therapist Network.
